Don’t Be a Fool — Know the Will of God for Your Life

Let me ask you something that might sting a little. If I asked you right now, “What is God’s will for your life?” — could you answer me?

If your answer is “I don’t know,” I’ve got news for you. And it’s not going to tickle your ears. But if you’ll stay with me for the next few minutes, I promise I’ll put a tool in your hands that will change everything.

Most people were never told they could actually know.

We’ve spent the whole week on one foundational truth — you can hear from God, and you’re supposed to.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 8:14 NKJV

The word sons there means mature children. People who actually look like their Father. Our goal as believers shouldn’t just be getting into heaven — it should be living such that someone could look at us and say, “If I’ve seen you, I’ve seen Jesus.”

You can’t live that way by accident. You only live that way by being led. And you’re only led if you allow yourself to be led.

Not everybody will. Some people will walk around their whole lives without ever tuning in to the voice of God. Don’t be one of them.

I’m going to say something that will sting — and I mean it in love.

I made you a promise earlier this week that if you’re religious, I was going to upset you. Today I’m keeping that promise. So brace yourself.

If you don’t know the will of God for your life, the Bible calls you a fool.

Before you close this tab and fire off an email, hear me out. I’m not slamming you. I’ve been that fool. I spent years not knowing what God wanted me to do or where He was leading me. And I wish I could say I wasn’t a fool during that season, but I was.

Don’t take my word for it. Take Paul’s.

See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Ephesians 5:15–17 NKJV

Read that again. Do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. What does Scripture call someone who is unwise? A fool.

So Paul is telling us plainly — if you don’t know the will of the Lord, you’re walking as a fool. He wasn’t being cruel. He was provoking the Church to wake up and start living on purpose.

Consider yourself provoked.

You don’t have time to waste another day.

Here’s something that humbles me every time I think about it. According to God’s timeline — one day is as a thousand years — you and I are only on this planet for about two and a half hours.

Two and a half hours.

That’s it. Even if you live to be 120 years old, in God’s economy that’s barely over two hours. Now let me ask you — how much of that do you really want to waste being a fool?

I got caught up one day playing a video game that kept crashing. I wasted the whole day chasing a thousand points in a glitchy game. Not because downtime is sinful — it isn’t. But because I had better things I could have done with that day, and I knew it.

Paul says we’re supposed to redeem the time. That means seize it back. Reclaim it. Have a plan for tomorrow or tomorrow will just run off with you.

You were born with a destiny. You were born with a purpose. Don’t spend another 24 hours of your two and a half hours wandering around with no idea what God wants.

Grace doesn’t disqualify you from hearing — it qualifies you.

Here’s one of the most overlooked verses in the Bible when it comes to this subject.

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit be with you all. Amen.

2 Corinthians 13:14 NKJV

Look at the order of that verse. Grace. Love. Communion.

Why does Paul open with grace and love before he gets to communion with the Holy Spirit? Because he knows exactly what your flesh is going to try to do the moment you hear “fellowship with the Holy Spirit.” Your flesh is going to say, “I’m not qualified. I’ve made too many mistakes. I don’t deserve to hear from God.”

So Paul heads that off. He reminds you of grace — because you didn’t do it all right, and God’s not treating you according to what you did. He reminds you of love — because God is going to love you through your mistakes.

Grace and love are the reasons you can’t be disqualified from communion with the Holy Spirit.

Stop believing the lie that your failure means God has gone silent. It doesn’t. Grace and love are exactly why you can commune with Him.

Communion means He’s in on your life.

Let me tell you what communion actually means. It means fellowship. When you and I break bread together, what’s in me goes in you, and what’s in you goes in me. We’re united.

Jeff, my friend, likes woodworking. He built his own boat. I couldn’t build a toy boat to float in a bathtub, and honestly I have no interest in learning. But if Jeff needed my help with a woodworking project, I’d be right there, because we’re in fellowship.

My wife likes musicals. I personally think musicals are the outskirts of hell and operas are the full-on center of it. But I’ve paid money to go to musicals with her because we’re in fellowship. What matters to her matters to me.

That’s exactly how the Holy Spirit relates to you.

He shall... perfect that which concerns me.

Psalm 138:8 NKJV

Notice it doesn’t say He’ll perfect what concerns Him. He’ll perfect what concerns you. Because in communion, your life is His business. Your decisions are His business. Your tomorrow is His business.

If He’s your communion partner, He’s talking.

Here’s the kicker. If you’re truly in communion with the Holy Spirit — and you are, if you’re born again — it makes zero sense to believe you can’t hear Him.

The Holy Spirit is the original know-it-all. He literally knows everything. Every decision you’re facing, every door in front of you, every step for tomorrow — He already knows the answer. And He’s not trying to keep it from you. Communion means you’re in on it.

So stop disqualifying yourself. Stop walking around calling yourself uninformed when God has given you His own Spirit to teach you concerning all things. You’re not a fool by necessity — only by choice.

End your foolish days today.

You’ve got two and a half hours on this planet. Some of it’s already spent. The question is what you’ll do with the rest.

Quit waiting. Quit assuming God is silent. Quit walking as a fool. Get before the Lord, ask Him what His will is, and expect the Holy Spirit to show you — because you’re in communion with Him.

End your foolish days. Know the will of God. Fight To Win.
