Don’t Despise It – Why Your Small Bit in His Hands Is Never Too Small

Don't Despise It - Why Your Small Bit in His Hands Is Never Too Small

I'm excited to keep going in this series, because today I want to close out something important: pressure doesn't need riches to choke the Word, and it doesn't have to look sinful to do it.

Pressure Doesn't Need Riches to Choke the Word

Loving the present world doesn't require wealth. It can be as simple as chasing an achievement in a video game late into the night, when you know you should be spending that time with the Lord instead. I've done exactly that — grinding out hours toward a high score, feeling that pull, and having to ask myself why I wanted that more than what God wanted to reveal to me.

It's not the hobby itself that's the problem. Enjoying life is not the issue — God gives us all things richly to enjoy. The issue is pressure that pulls you away from the Word until it gets choked out entirely.

That pressure can show up in a hobby, in a job you'll work late for but won't extend grace to a church service running long, in a pursuit of a better financial future that costs you actual time with your own kids.

You can leave your children money and still leave them without confidence in the love of God, because they never saw it modeled often enough in you. Money was never the only thing at risk of choking the Word — anything you want badly enough to compromise for can do it.

The Good Ground Keeps the Word - With Patience

“But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.”

Luke 8:15 (NKJV)

Notice the word patience here — it means consistency. A plant fertilized once every three months doesn't survive on that schedule, and neither does a harvest sown from occasional attention to the Word.

Getting to good ground isn't about intensity in one moment. It's cultivating your heart so that whatever God says, you yield to it — even when you don't feel like it, even when you don't agree with it intellectually at first. You let it shape what you want, rather than only doing what you already wanted to do anyway.

Don't Despise What's in Your Hand

When Jesus fed the five thousand, He didn't need what was in the disciples' hands to be sufficient on its own. Five loaves and two fish were never going to feed that crowd by ordinary math. But it wasn't about the math — it was about what happened once it was placed in His hands and then given away anyway.

A lot of people hold back from giving, serving, or sowing into anything because what they have feels too small to matter. "What's my little bit going to do?"

But the disciples handed out portions that looked insufficient for even one family, and the crowd was fed with baskets left over.

Whatever's in your hand right now — your time, your resources, your story of what Jesus has done for you — don't discount it because it looks small next to the need in front of you. Give it anyway. Sow the Word every day, consistently, whether you feel like it or not, and let Him multiply what you placed in His hands.
