Fight the Buzzards: How to Stand Strong While You Wait

I’m excited to get this into your hands today — because this is the piece nobody talks about. Everybody wants to know how to release faith. But what do you do when you’ve done everything right and nothing has shown up yet?

That’s what I’m putting in your hands today. And if you grab a hold of this, it will keep you standing when every instinct says to quit.

Abraham cut the animals — and then nothing happened.

Go back with me to Genesis 15. God and Abraham are in conversation at night. God shows him the stars, makes him a promise, and tells him to cut several animals in two as part of a blood covenant. Abraham gets up, spends the money, does the work, cuts everything in two — and then places each piece opposite the other and waits.

And nothing happens.

No music from Heaven. No audible voice. No sign that God even noticed. Just Abraham, the open sky, and a bunch of carcasses.

And then the vultures showed up.

All day long, Abraham drove them away from the sacrifice. Hour after hour. Swatting buzzards off his obedience in the heat of the day. He’d done everything God told him to do and it didn’t look like a single thing was happening.

There are going to be days exactly like that in your walk of faith.

Having done all — stand.

Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.— Ephesians 6:13 (NKJV)

Having done all, to stand. That’s not a failure position. That is a faith position. There are going to be seasons where you’ve been completely obedient, you’ve done everything you know to do, and it still looks like nothing is changing. And in that moment, you don’t quit. You stand. You keep smacking the buzzards.

Because here’s what those buzzards will whisper: “If it was really God, something would have happened by now. You must have missed it. You might as well give up. Maybe next time.”

Don’t you dare listen to that. Quit being a crybaby — suck it up and stand. It’s not a Hallmark movie where you do everything right and suddenly the music swells and it all works out. Sometimes you’ve done all, and now it’s time to stand.

Here’s how you stay strong while you’re standing.

Romans 4:20 gives us the key: “He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God.”

He gave glory to God. That’s how you fight the buzzards in the New Testament — with thanksgiving and worship.

When the thought comes — “You’re not getting those socks. Just give up” — you don’t sit with it. You open your mouth and you give thanks. You say: “Lord, I thank You that Your Word is true. I asked You for a pair of socks in Jesus’ name and You said whatsoever I ask, You will give me. Lord, I thank You. My socks are coming. You are faithful.”

And you keep going. You thank Him for what He’s already done in your life. You honor Him as your shepherd, your Father, your God. You remind yourself and your circumstances Who your backing is.

Thanksgiving keeps the switch of faith turned on. Colossians 4:2 says it directly: “Continue earnestly in prayer, being vigilant in it with thanksgiving.” Every time doubt starts to creep in, every time you feel yourself beginning to weaken — open your mouth and worship. Give thanks. Keep the pressure on.

There’s another way to build yourself up — and I’m not going to skip it.

Jude verse 20 says: “Building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit.” If you’ve been baptized in the Holy Spirit and you pray in tongues, use it. When you don’t know how to pray as you ought, when you’ve said everything you know to say in English and you still need to build yourself up — pray in the Spirit. It edifies you. It strengthens you. It cooperates with faith in ways that go beyond what your natural mind can access.

And if you haven’t been baptized in the Holy Spirit, that’s okay. Everything I’ve taught works without it. But if you want it, contact the ministry and we’ll be glad to help you receive.

You have to become fully convinced.

Romans 4:21 wraps it up: “And being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform.” Fully convinced. Not half convinced. Not convinced on good days. Fully.

And the way you get there is by doing your homework. Feed on those Scriptures every day — the three biggest problems, the three Scriptures per problem. Keep washing your mind with the Word of God until the promise becomes more real to you than the problem. Until you know, in your bones, that God cannot lie and that His Word will not return void.

That’s what strengthened Abraham. Not better circumstances. Not a sign from Heaven. He gave glory to God — fully convinced that what God promised, God was able to perform.

You can be fully convinced, too. The promise hasn’t changed. God hasn’t moved. The covenant is still in effect.

Now drive off the buzzards and stand.
