God Gave His Word — And He Has Never Once Gone Back on It
A friend of mine made an observation a while back that I have never forgotten. He said, "You know, in most situations there are three people involved — you, God, and the devil. And the only perfect one in the room keeps getting blamed for everything."
That is exactly what's been happening. And it's costing people their faith.
I want to build on what we covered in the previous message — that God gave man dominion on the sixth day, and that dominion is the reason evil exists in the earth. Today I want to take it further. Because there are still questions that need real answers. And we're going to get into one of the most misunderstood doctrines in the Church: the sovereignty of God.
"God is in control" — but if that's true, you've never sinned.
Here's the problem with saying God is in control of everything that happens in the earth. If that's true, then by necessity, every tragedy is His will. Every hurricane, every birth defect, every act of evil — God did it or allowed it because it fit His sovereign plan.
And I want to ask you something honest: has God ever told you to do something and you said no? I could raise both hands. I've looked God square in the face through His Word and said no. I've done it plenty of times.
So if God's will automatically happens — if He's in complete control of everything — then you have never once been outside His will. Not one time. Every no you ever said to Him was actually His will. And that doesn't make any sense. Why would He tell you what to do and then will that you refuse?
Jesus Himself addressed this. When He taught His disciples to pray, He said:
"Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."
Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)
If God's will automatically happens on the earth, why are we praying for it? Why would Jesus teach us to ask for something that was already guaranteed?
The answer is clear: God's will does not automatically happen on earth. It requires the cooperation of His people. That's why He gave us this prayer. That's why dominion matters.
If there are hurricanes in heaven, then maybe God sends them. But there aren't.
Here's a simple test for whether any calamity is the will of God: does it happen in Heaven?
Jesus said pray that God's will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. So what's in Heaven? The Word says every tear is wiped away. No more pain. No more death. No sickness. No storms.
So when someone says a hurricane is an act of God, I want to ask: are there hurricanes in Heaven? Because if the will of God on earth is supposed to match the will of God in Heaven — and there are no hurricanes in Heaven — then hurricanes are not the will of God.
God is not sending storms. God is not the one giving children birth defects. God is not the one causing suffering. And if you've been told He is, you've been given a picture of a God who does not match the God of Scripture — and it is no wonder your faith has struggled.
God gave His word — and He will not break it.
Here's the deeper issue. When people say God is sovereign in the sense that He can override anything He wants to at any time, what they're really saying is that God's promises are conditional. That He might keep them. That He can do whatever He pleases regardless of what He already said.
But look at what Scripture says:
"My covenant I will not break, nor alter the word that has gone out of My lips."
Psalm 89:34 (NKJV)
And Psalm 115:16 puts it plainly:
"The heaven, even the heavens, are the Lord's; but the earth He has given to the children of men."
Psalm 115:16 (NKJV)
God said it. He will not alter it. He gave the earth to man, and He will not take back His own word.
Let me illustrate it this way. Suppose I'm in a boxing gym with a friend who's a boxer, not a martial artist. Before we spar, I say, "I won't kick — we're just going to box." Then the bell rings and I kick him. And when he objects, I say, "Well, I'm sovereign here. This is my gym."
That's not sovereignty. That's breaking my word. And God doesn't break His word. The moment He gave man dominion, He honored that. Not because He couldn't override it — but because He cannot lie. His integrity is the foundation of everything.
This is why the so-called "sovereignty of God" doctrine — when it's used to mean God does whatever He wants regardless of His promises — is actually a teaching that makes God out to be untrustworthy. You can't trust a God whose promises might not apply to you. That's not a God you can build your life on.
Adam gave the devil the keys — and Jesus came to take them back.
When the devil tempted Jesus on the mountain, he said he would give Jesus the glory of all the kingdoms of the earth — because they had been given to him. And Jesus didn't dispute that. He didn't say the devil was lying. Because it was true. Adam had handed it over.
Man had dominion. Man bowed his knee to Satan. And by doing so, man transferred that authority. That's why in the New Testament the devil is called the god of this world — not because God appointed him, but because man handed it to him.
But here's the good news: God did something about it. He sent Jesus. And Jesus, as a man, took back the authority that a man had given away. He defeated the enemy. He stripped him of the keys of death and Hell. And then He handed that authority back to His people.
Jesus didn't come to explain why things were broken. He came to fix them.
Healing was never something new — it has always been the will of God.
Some people say healing passed away with Jesus and the early disciples. But that misses something important: when Jesus healed people, He wasn't introducing a new concept. He was expressing the eternal will of the Father.
Think about it. When God told Adam not to eat from the tree, the reason was plain: death was never His intention. His will was always life.
When the entire nation of Israel came out of Egypt after generations of brutal slavery — not one of them was feeble. God healed a whole nation of slaves before they even asked. Nobody prayed for it, nobody requested it. The Father just did it because healing is who He is.
When Jesus showed up, He said He was the express image of the Father. Everything He did — every healing, every restoration, every miracle — was showing us what the Father has always wanted for His people. Healing is not a New Testament novelty. It has always been God's will.
The problem is never God's willingness. The problem is our willingness to receive — and our picture of who He actually is.
Stop blaming the only perfect One in the room.
Here is the summary. There are three people involved in most of your situations: you, God, and the devil. God gave man dominion. Man gave it to the enemy. Jesus bought it back. And now it's in our hands again.
The calamity in the earth is not God's doing. The sickness is not His will. The suffering was never His intention. He warned man, man chose wrong, and creation has been paying the price. But God has not been idle — He sent the solution.
And the solution is living in us. Which means we have responsibility. We have authority. We have the name of Jesus and the Word of God. And we get to decide how much of God's goodness we allow to operate in our lives.
Stop blaming the only perfect One in the room. Start working with Him.
Fight To Win.
