God Says It’s Done — Even When It Doesn’t Look Like It

I’m excited about what we’re getting into today — and I want to warn you up front. This might be the most frustrating thing in your entire walk of faith. Not because it’s complicated. But because it doesn’t work the way your brain wants it to.

Here it is: God calls those things which do not exist as though they did. And until you settle that in your heart, faith is going to drive you crazy.

Faith starts with the Word — that hasn’t changed.

Before we get into the new territory, let me anchor us. We’ve established the recipe for walking by faith. The first and biggest ingredient: the promise of God. Abraham’s walk started there, and yours will too.

If you’re believing God with no Scripture to stand on, that’s not Bible faith — that’s religion. And they’re not the same thing. Get in the Word, find the promises that cover your problem, and start there. That’s not negotiable.

Then you get to know the God who gave you the promise. You spend time with Him. You make the choice to believe. You magnify Him as God Almighty over your situation. And you hold on, knowing He gives life to the dead.

All of that is still in the bowl. Now let’s add the ingredient that trips people up.

God doesn’t talk about your problem — He talks about the answer.

Go with me to Romans 4:17:

“…God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did.”

— Romans 4:17 (NKJV)

This is how God operates. When you go to Him with a problem, He responds with a promise — as if it’s already done. And that’s infuriating when you’re still looking at the problem.

Last week I tore my bicep. I couldn’t lift my arm. I was in serious pain. And if you asked me right then whether my healing existed — honestly? “No. It does not exist. I am in tremendous pain.”

But here’s what I know. By His stripes I was healed. That healing has already been purchased. It already exists in the eternal realm. The fact that my arm disagreed with that doesn’t change what God said. Let God be true and let my muscle be a liar.

The Word of God is the building block of everything that exists.

Here’s why this works — and it’s not just wishful thinking. Go to John 1:1–3:

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made.”

— John 1:1–3 (NKJV)

Everything that exists was made by the Word. My bicep traces back to the day God spoke man into existence. The desk you’re sitting at traces back to the day He said “let trees appear.” Everything — made by the Word.

So if the Word made everything, can’t the Word fix everything?

When God gives you a promise and calls things that don’t exist as though they did, He is literally handing you the building blocks of the universe. He’s not just encouraging you. He’s giving you the very substance that created what you need in the first place.

That’s why I spoke to my muscle. “By His stripes I was healed. Therefore, in the name of Jesus, I command you to be knit together and made whole.” I wasn’t denying the pain. I was taking the highest reality — the Word of God — and demanding the temporary reality line up with it.

A week later, I did twenty push-ups to wake myself up before shooting. Because what God said about me was true.

Abraham had to call himself what God called him — before it existed.

When God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, He said “For a father of many nations have I made you.” Not will make you. Have made you. And Abraham had one son — the wrong one.

Imagine how religious people would have responded to that. “God, I am not the father of many nations. I have one child. You’re wrong.” Or the super-spiritual version: “I’m not going to call myself the father of many nations until I actually have the nations.”

But Abraham didn’t do that. He accepted what God said. He began to call himself what God called him. He introduced himself as Abraham — father of many nations — while Sarah was still barren. That’s not denial. That’s cooperating with the God who calls things that don’t exist as though they did.

And that is exactly what you’re being asked to do. When God says “by His stripes you were healed” and your body disagrees — you are not Abraham arguing with God. You are Abraham walking in what God already declared. Say what He said. Call yourself what He calls you.

This is how you use the Word — not to impress God, but to line reality up with truth.

You’re not quoting Scripture to convince God to act. He already acted. You’re not speaking over your body to make healing exist. It already exists — purchased at the cross.

You are taking the permanent truth of God’s Word and demanding the temporary circumstances bow to it. That’s not crazy. That’s cooperation with the highest law in the universe.

So speak the Word over your body, your finances, your family. Not to earn anything. Not to perform for God. But because the Word that created everything is still the most powerful force in existence — and it’s on your side.
