It Shall Not Come Near You – What Psalm 91 Actually Promises
I'm excited to keep going in this series, because today I want to show you something in the Hebrew of Isaiah 53 that settles what "griefs and sorrows" actually meant all along.
Griefs and Sorrows Meant Sicknesses and Infirmities All Along
“Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted.”
Isaiah 53:4 (NKJV)
In the Hebrew, the words translated "griefs" and "sorrows" here are the same words elsewhere translated "sicknesses" and "infirmities." Scripture interprets itself here — Matthew directly connects this verse to Jesus healing physical sickness, not merely forgiving sin. The two were never separate promises. He bore your sicknesses the same way He carried your sin — together, as one complete provision.
That's part of why the word translated "saved" throughout the New Testament carries a much larger meaning than simply "kept out of hell." It points to complete deliverance — spirit, soul, and body.
Faith Is Voice-Activated – Say It Before You Feel It
Psalm 91 doesn't just describe a place of safety; it tells you how to get there. The psalmist says of the Lord, "He is my refuge, my fortress, and my God, in Him will I trust." Notice that's spoken, not just believed quietly. Declaring it appears to be part of how it takes hold in your life.
“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place, no evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling.”
Psalm 91:9-10 (NKJV)
That's not a promise reserved for the afterlife. It's written as a present-tense benefit of making God your dwelling place now.
It Shall Not Come Near You – Even When Everything Around You Is Falling
Psalm 91 goes on to say a thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, and it still will not come near you. That's a strange kind of protection to picture — thousands falling around you, and somehow none of it actually reaching you.
Your relationship with God was never meant to be dictated by what's happening to everyone else around you. It's personal, between you and a Father who has already told you plainly what He wants- for you.
Your Will Be Done on Earth as It Is in Heaven
“Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”
Matthew 6:10 (NKJV)
Ask yourself a simple question: Is there sickness and disease in heaven? If the answer is no, then sickness was never God's will for earth either, because Jesus taught us to pray for earth to look like heaven, not the other way around.
This was the Father's will long before Jesus ever showed up, and long before any apostle walked the earth. When Jesus prayed and taught others to pray for the Father's will to be done here, healing was already part of what that will included. It didn't start with Him, and it didn't end when He returned to heaven — because the Father hasn't gone anywhere.
Fight To Win.
