Not Corrupted - Exposed: What Money Actually Does to a Person
I'm excited to keep going in this series, because today I want to challenge something people say all the time — that money corrupts people. It doesn't. It exposes them.
Money Doesn't Corrupt You - It Exposes You
If someone becomes a horse's rear end the moment they get money, that attitude was already there. They simply couldn't afford the consequences of showing it before. Money didn't create the character — it removed the restraint that was hiding it.
This is exactly why lottery winners so often end up broke again. The habits that kept them broke in the first place never actually changed. More money without a changed relationship to money just means the same problems play out on a bigger stage.
Neither the Poor Nor the Rich Have Found Peace in a Number
Poor people carry a belief that money would fix everything — that once they had enough, they'd finally be at rest. Rich people don't get that comfort, because they already have the money, and many of them are still miserable. The deception gets exposed on their side, but it's the exact same lie both groups believed.
Money was never the solution to your problems. It doesn't buy health, and it doesn't buy rest. You don't have peace without money, and you don't automatically have it with money either — because peace was never sitting in a bank account to begin with.
When Your Joy Moves with Your Bank Balance, You Have a Wrong Relationship with Money
I remember a season when my personal finances were very low, and then some money came in, and I was all smiles. The Lord corrected me plainly: my peace was tracking my bank account instead of tracking Him. What He has said and who He is doesn't change just because a number on a screen does.
If your joy rises and falls with your finances, that's worth being honest about. Jesus gave you His joy and His peace as a gift already in hand — not something contingent on your account balance staying above a certain line.
Tithing Was Never About God Needing Your Money
“The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.”
Proverbs 10:22 (NKJV)
Tithing gets treated like a hardship, but that was never the point of it. The purpose was to put God first in your thinking every single time money touched your hands — a built-in reminder that whatever came in, it was His blessing that put you over, not the money itself.
That's a protective mechanism, not a tax. It keeps money from convincing you that it's the reason you succeeded, or that without more of it you can't do what God has called you to do. Get started on what He's told you to do before the money question is fully solved — provision tends to show up once you're moving, not before.
Money is not your Lord. It doesn't get to dictate your peace, your decisions, or your joy. The blessing of the Lord is what makes you rich, and it comes with no sorrow attached — but let money deceive you, and the sorrow comes standard.
Fight To Win.
