Put Up Your Spiritual Antenna: How God’s Promises Actually Get Fulfilled

Have you been quoting promises and wondering why they’re not coming to pass?

You pray Psalm 91 every morning. You confess God’s word over your finances. You know the verses by heart. But the promises don’t seem to be landing in your life. Today I want to show you why — and how to fix it.

The signal is broadcasting. The question is whether your receiver is on.

We’ve been teaching all week about hearing God. Let’s go back to our anchor verse.

For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

Romans 8:14 NKJV

Let me say something that might shake you up. Many of God’s promises will go unfulfilled in your life if you don’t hear from Him. Not because God isn’t faithful. Not because His Word isn’t true. But because He fulfills His promises by leading you — and if you can’t hear the leading, you can’t follow it.

In the old days, radios had dials you’d turn manually. If I wasn’t getting my favorite station, I never drove down to the station and yelled, “Why aren’t you broadcasting?” I knew they were broadcasting. The problem wasn’t the signal. The problem was my receiver.

Same thing happens with God. He’s speaking. He’s leading. He’s teaching. But if your receiver is off, you’ll keep wondering why life isn’t working out the way you prayed.

Be still long enough to actually hear Him.

Be angry, and do not sin. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still.

Psalm 4:4 NKJV

Notice the instruction. Meditate within your heart on your bed, and be still. That’s putting your spiritual antenna up.

Not still while washing dishes. Not still while watching TV. Not still while scrolling your phone. Still.

Most believers don’t hear God because they never give Him an undistracted moment. They want answers in 30 seconds while juggling four other things. Then they wonder why the line seems dead. The line isn’t dead. You haven’t sat down long enough to listen.

God leads you to profit — but only if you’ll follow.

Read this carefully.

Thus says the Lord, your Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel: “I am the Lord your God, who teaches you to profit, who leads you in the way you should go.”

Isaiah 48:17 NKJV

Catch that word — should. Not will. The way you should go. Because God leads, but He doesn’t drag you. You still have to walk through the door He shows you.

A man I know used to drink coffee like it was going out of style. He had constant stomach issues. The Lord told him to stop drinking coffee. His first response was to “rebuke that, Satan.” When he finally realized it was God speaking, he obeyed. The stomach problem went away.

Did he profit? Absolutely. He had less pain, better health, a better quality of life. But here’s the key — the only reason he profited is because he eventually followed the leading. If he had kept rebuking it, he’d still be hurting today.

Your protection often comes through a leading you almost ignored.

Let me tell you about a woman my wife Terry once spoke with. She had been mugged on her way into work. She was upset and confused. She kept saying, “I pray Psalm 91 every day. I don’t understand how this could happen.”

Terry asked her some questions. “What were you thinking the night before? The morning of?”

The woman said, “I had this strong sense I shouldn’t go in to work. I battled it all night. The next morning I felt the same way — I just didn’t have peace about going. But I needed the money.”

Terry looked at her gently and said, “God was fulfilling Psalm 91 over you. He was telling you not to go. You didn’t follow the leading.”

That’s not God breaking His promise. That’s a believer not recognizing how the promise was actually being delivered. He was protecting her by trying to keep her out of harm’s way. She quoted the verse louder while ignoring the very voice trying to fulfill it.

Tragedies don’t always come from God — sometimes they come from missed leadings.

Remember when God was going to destroy Sodom? An angel came to Lot and told him to gather his family. Lot, his wife, his two daughters, and his daughters’ husbands. Six people.

How many actually made it out? Three.

It was God’s will for all six to be saved. He led, He warned, He instructed. But the two husbands wouldn’t come. Lot’s wife wouldn’t do what God said and turned into a pillar of salt. God’s will was protection — but His protection only reaches the ones who follow His leading.

I think about September 11th. As horrendous as that day was, the building usually held about 60,000 people. Less than 4,000 died. Many people I’ve heard interviewed said something like, “I don’t know — I just felt off that morning. I didn’t go in.” Congratulations. You were protected.

But I also heard one widow describe how her husband told her the night before, “I don’t think I should go in tomorrow, but there’s a big deal on the line.” He went anyway.

I’m not blaming the people who died. I blame the terrorists. But I am telling you — God leads people away from danger, and your job is to follow the leading even when you don’t understand it.

God told me to stay home. It saved my wife’s life.

Let me tell you why this is so personal to me.

One day I was supposed to go on a trip. The Lord clearly said, “Don’t go. Stay home.” I didn’t know why. I didn’t argue. I stayed home.

The next day, Terry woke up not feeling well. The Lord said, “Take her to the hospital.” I did. We found out she had sepsis.

The doctors told me that if she had done what she normally would have done — laid in bed, prayed some healing scriptures, and waited it out — she would have died there in bed. She would have lost consciousness and never woken up.

God protected her life. But He did it by speaking to me — stay home, take her to the hospital — and by me actually obeying. The most precious person in the world to me is still alive today because I heard from God and followed the leading.

You decide whether the harvest comes.

Here’s something most preachers won’t tell you. People will say, “Sow $1,000 today and I guarantee you a 100-fold return.” I can’t promise you that. Why?

Because I don’t know if you’ll follow His leading.

I can promise you God is willing to multiply your seed. I can promise you His Word is true. But the harvest doesn’t fall out of the sky. It comes through doors He’ll open, business ideas He’ll drop in your spirit, deals He’ll lead you into. You make sure the harvest comes by following the leading.

If God told you to start a business, would you do it? If He told you to buy a stock, would you? If He told you to sell something, would you obey? Your harvest is tied to your obedience.

Get the antenna up. Don’t miss the next thing He says.

Quit blaming God for tragedies you weren’t supposed to be in. Quit quoting promises while ignoring the voice trying to fulfill them. Quit treating prayer like a transaction and start treating it like a conversation.

Be still. Listen. Move when He leads. Promises don’t fall on the passive — they land on the obedient.

Put up your antenna. Follow the leading. Fight To Win.
