Put Your Mouth to Work: The Spiritual Law That Changes Everything
Are you tired of sowing and sowing and never seeing a harvest?
Are you tired of watching your ship drift toward a harbor you never wanted to land in?
Let me tell you something — God put a spiritual law in the earth that can literally change the course of your life. And you’ve been walking past it every single day without using it. This isn’t a message to tickle your ears. It’s a tool I’m putting in your hands.
The winds are fierce, but the rudder still works.
Some people hear this teaching and push back: “Life is too complicated. My situation is too big. A few words can’t change all of that.”
Listen, James didn’t say your life was like a dinghy. He didn’t say it was like a kayak. He said it was like a ship.
Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires.
James 3:4 NKJV
Your ship is big. The winds are fierce. But if the pilot will grab a hold of the rudder, he can choose his destination.
Are you willing to do that?
You can’t tame your tongue, but you can change what it’s hooked to.
I used to be the word police. Somebody would say, “I’m so stupid. I’m such a loser.” And I’d tell them, “Don’t say that! Don’t say that!”
You know what they’d say? “Okay, I won’t say it anymore.” What they really meant was, “I won’t say it in front of you anymore.” Because as long as that junk was still in their heart, it was still going to come out.
Jesus said it this way: out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks. When somebody keeps calling themselves a loser, all I’m hearing is what’s in their heart in abundance.
You’re not going to change what’s in your heart unless you first get born again. Fundamentally, you’ve got to move from death to life. Then you get the Word down deep on the inside of you until the source changes — and your mouth will follow.
Your mouth has to produce fruit.
This is where a lot of folks miss it. They finally hear this teaching and they think, “Okay, I’m just not going to say anything negative anymore.”
That’s not enough.
A man’s stomach shall be satisfied from the fruit of his mouth; from the produce of his lips he shall be filled.
Proverbs 18:20 NKJV
Let me ask you a question. If your mouth is producing no fruit, will your stomach ever be satisfied? No.
You being satisfied is you having your needs met. And your needs won’t be met just because you stopped speaking death — your needs get met when your mouth starts producing life.
Silence doesn’t cut it. You’ve got to open your mouth and start speaking what God says.
Death and life are in the power of your tongue.
Here’s the verse that explains why all of this works.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit.
Proverbs 18:21 NKJV
Notice who has the power. It doesn’t say death and life are in the power of God’s tongue. It says your tongue.
So why do we keep blaming God every time something dies in our lives? “Well, it must just be the will of God.” Could it be that your tongue didn’t produce what it was supposed to?
Let me show you how this works in the natural. When the housing bubble burst here in Florida, thousands of brand-new houses sat empty. Nobody had ever lived in them. One year later? Things were breaking. Decay was setting in. Why?
Because there’s a curse operating in the earth. You don’t have to do anything wrong for decay to show up — you just have to do nothing at all.
The same is true in your life. If you won’t grab a hold of your rudder and you won’t put life in your own mouth, death is just going to show up by default.
Grace doesn’t mean you get to be passive.
For all you grace folks out there who think, “I don’t have to do anything — God’s already given it all to me by grace” — listen, I’m a grace person. I love Andrew Wommack. I attend his meetings. I believe everything God has for me has already been given.
But I possess and access that grace through faith. And one of the main ways faith goes into operation is through what comes out of your mouth.
Remember what James said one chapter earlier? Show me your faith by your works, and I’ll show you my faith by my works.
One of the ways I see your faith is by what your tongue does.
Fall in love with the power in your mouth.
You have authority in your mouth. Don’t despise it because you don’t like the sound of it. Don’t refuse to believe it because it sounds too simple.
Fall in love with the fact that your tongue can alter your life and your future — then put that power to work.
Speak life over your body. Speak life over your finances. Speak life over your family. Rudder your ship toward God’s plan for your life, and don’t let up.
Grab the rudder. Put your mouth to work. Fight To Win. Start today.
