Train Your Faith Before You Need It — Because He’s God Almighty
I’m excited to put something practical in your hands today. We’ve been walking through how Abraham walked by faith, and today I want to give you two things that will change how you approach everything — your problems, your prayers, and your God.
First: you need to train your faith before the crisis hits. Second: you need to remember who you’re actually dealing with.
Don’t wait for the crisis to start trusting God.
You might be sitting there right now thinking, “I’ve got a good job, good health, good family. I don’t really need to walk by faith right now.” That’s exactly when you should start.
Because people encounter situations bigger than themselves every single day. And if you’ve spent years practicing self-reliance, the day something shows up that you genuinely cannot solve — cancer, financial collapse, a family falling apart — you’re going to try to trust a God you barely know. And that’s tough. Not because God withholds, but because you haven’t built the relationship and the practice to receive from Him.
This is why you train faith before you need it. Our show is called Fight To Win — and nobody learns self-defense after they’ve already been attacked and expects to be ready. You train before the problem. Same principle applies in your walk with God.
David practiced his faith when nobody was watching.
When David stood before Saul and said “I faced the lion, I faced the bear — I’ll face Goliath” — he wasn’t bragging. He was reporting a track record. He had been practicing his faith out in the field when no one cared and no one was watching.
Here’s what gets me about that. When a lion or a bear came after his father’s flock, David didn’t have to fight. Nobody would have blamed him for letting those sheep go. His dad almost certainly would have said, “Son, you’re worth more to me than any sheep.”
But David chose to fight. He chose to trust the God he was in covenant with — out in the field, alone, when it didn’t matter to anyone else. And that’s where he built the track record that gave him the courage to face Goliath.
That’s what you and I have to do. Start small. Believe God for a pair of socks. Believe God for a parking spot. Build the track record so that when the big thing arrives, you’re not starting from zero.
Here’s your homework — and I mean it.
Think about your three biggest problems right now. Financial, physical, family — whatever they are. Then get your Bible out and find two or three promises of God that cover each one. Feed on those Scriptures. Read them several times a day. Think about them.
If you’re new and don’t know where to start, call the ministry and one of our prayer ministers will walk through Scriptures with you. That’s what we’re here for.
And when it comes to prayer — don’t commit to an hour if you haven’t been praying at all. Start with five minutes of just talking to Him. About anything. Your job, your favorite team, your stress. He knows everything about everything. Just talk to Him and let the relationship grow from there.
Your problem is not bigger than God — not even close.
Here’s the part I really need you to get. Romans 4:17 says Abraham believed in the presence of Him whom he believed — God. Not a god. God. And I think a lot of Christians forget that when they’re sitting across from their problem.
When God introduced himself to Abraham, He didn’t just say “I am God.” He said, “I am God Almighty.” In other words — you’ve heard of other gods, but you have never seen anything like Me.
“I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.”
— Genesis 17:1 (NKJV)
That is who you are bringing your problem to. The One who stopped the rotation of the earth when Joshua asked Him to. The One who made an axe head float. The One who walked on water. The reason none of those things are impossible is simple: He’s God.
Your credit card bill — He’s bigger. That diagnosis — He’s bigger. What your kids are doing, what your boss is threatening, what the economy looks like — He is bigger than all of it. He can recreate every cell in your body in an instant. Not because medicine fails, but because He’s God Almighty and there is nothing He cannot do.
Walk by faith like you know who you’re trusting.
The brain surgeon story says it best. A world-class Spirit-filled surgeon — a man who knew exactly what he was doing — was about to make a routine incision. And the Lord said
“Don’t cut it. Shave it. The test results are wrong.”
He listened. He obeyed. He saved his patient’s life.
The lesson isn’t that experts are wrong. The lesson is that no matter how skilled you are, God knows more. When you step from self-reliance into God-reliance, you step into limitlessness. There is no problem too big, no situation too far gone, no diagnosis too final.
Start building your faith today. Get those Scriptures. Spend time with Him. And never forget — the One you’re trusting is not just God. He’s God Almighty.
Fight To Win. Start today.
