You Are Not Convincing God — He Is Already Convinced
I’m excited to get into the nuts and bolts of how to walk by faith today. But before we get to the how, there’s something you need to settle in your heart first — because if you get this wrong, your entire walk of faith will be exhausting, inconsistent, and frustrating.
Here it is: you are not walking by faith to convince God to help you. He is already convinced.
Faith is not works — but it does produce action.
Before we go further, let’s clear something up. Some people hear “walk by faith” and immediately say, “But if you’re asking me to do anything, that’s works.” That’s a misunderstanding of what works actually means.
Works, as the Bible defines it, is anything you do to earn God’s love, earn His acceptance, or make yourself righteous before Him. That’s works. But faith that genuinely believes God has already provided will naturally produce action — because you can’t truly believe something and do nothing about it.
If you believe Jesus is the only way to Heaven, you’ll tell people about Him. If you believe God has healed you, you’ll act on it. If you believe God has blessed you, you’ll tithe. Faith and action go together — not to earn anything, but as a natural response to what you already believe.
God set up the whole system so that you could receive.
Go with me to Romans 4:16:
Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all.
— Romans 4:16 (NKJV)
Read that carefully. God chose faith as the access point specifically so that the promise would be sure — steadfast, secure — to everyone. He didn’t pick something that would exclude people. He didn’t say you need to climb Mount Everest or walk across a street or speak a certain language. He said trust me. Because anyone, anywhere, in any condition, can do that.
God was looking for a way that everyone could receive from Him. That is who He is. That is the love behind this whole system.
You are not convincing God — He already made the promise.
Here’s where a lot of people get their walk of faith completely backwards. They approach God with the Word like they’re making a legal argument, trying to wear Him down into helping them. I did this too. I would quote Scripture back to God as if I needed to talk Him into it — until He finally got through to me and said, “Why do you think you have that Word to quote? I put that promise there because I wanted you to have it.”
Think about it this way. If a friend says “I want to give you a thousand dollars” — and then you show up saying, “Please, I need a thousand dollars, I hope you want to give it to me, please give it to me” — you’re ignoring the fact that he already told you he wanted to. The promise itself is the evidence that He wants you to have it.
“Why are these promises in the Book?” Because God wants you to have them. He set up the whole system so the promise would be sure to all the seed. When you walk by faith, you are not moving God. You are moving yourself into position to receive what He has already decided to give.
Stop seeing God as the one looking for a reason not to help you.
Some people carry around a picture of God with a clipboard, scanning for any reason to disqualify them.
“You looked cross-eyed at someone in Walmart — no healing for you.” That is not who God is.
He is the rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. He is the one who set up this whole system of grace and faith precisely because He wanted the promise to reach everyone. He is more on your side than you are on your side. He wants you healed more than you want to be healed. He wants you free from debt more than you want to be free.
Do you see Him that way? When you begin to lay hold of a new job, freedom from sickness, financial breakthrough — do you see Him wanting to give that to you? Or are you still approaching faith like a battle you have to win against a reluctant God?
How you see Him will determine everything about how you walk by faith.
Your walk of faith starts with the Word of God.
Here’s the teaser for where we’re going next. Abraham — the man Hebrews 6 tells us to imitate — walked by faith starting with what God said to him. Your walk of faith starts with the Word of God. Not feelings. Not circumstances. Not what looks possible. What did God say?
There are people right now saying “I’m just trusting God” with nothing underneath it — no promise they’re standing on, no word they’ve received. That’s not faith. Faith has something to believe in. And that something is always what God has already said.
We’ll dig into exactly how Abraham did it — and how you can do the same — next time.
Fight To Win. Start today.
