You Can't Harvest What You Refuse to Sow

I'm excited to keep building on what we've been talking about this week, because today I want to make this as explicit as I possibly can: you cannot harvest what you refuse to sow.

We're still anchored in the parable of the sower, and today I want to take you to a companion verse that removes all the guesswork about what the seed actually is.

The seed is the Word of God — Luke makes that crystal clear

Luke 8:11 spells it out in plain language, so there's no confusion about what we're actually talking about.

“Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.”

Luke 8:11 (NKJV)

I receive offerings, and I teach people how to sow financial seed. That's true. But you have to sow the Word along with it — not instead of it.

If you're going to give financially, take a verse like Luke 6:38 or Galatians 6 and actually pray it over your seed. Couple the Word with the finances.

Concentrate on healing first — because if you're dead, the other two don't matter

If you have a financial problem, a family problem, and a health problem, work on the health problem first. It's amazing how much easier the other two become once your health starts to turn around.

A lot of people aren't healed for one simple reason: they never sow any healing seed. They never sow the Word of healing down on the inside of themselves.

God is not the author of your problem. He's the author of the solution.

They wanted a miracle without ever sitting through a single service

I was on a security detail for a nationally known minister once, protecting him while he ministered to a family with a child in a wheelchair.

The minister prayed for them, graciously, believing exactly what he preaches. He even turned to me and asked if I had anything to add. I had something in my heart, but I was too much of a coward to say it.

Here's what the Lord had shown me: they weren't going to receive, because they refused to sow seed.

So I told my guys, "Watch where they sit for the rest of the service." They didn't sit anywhere. They left. They'd never attended a single service — they showed up, told their story, got prayed for, and walked out the door.

Was God withholding from that family? Absolutely not. They were trying to harvest a crop they never planted.

Every field you drive past is a time portal into someone's past

If you drive by a farmer's field and see corn growing, that's not an accident. Somewhere back in time, a man sowed corn seed. It wasn't an immaculate conception of corn.

If you see a lettuce patch, that tells you the same thing about the past — someone sowed lettuce.

Your seed sack is also a time portal — straight into your future

Here's the flip side. If I hand you a packet of seeds with a picture of black carrots on it, and you plant them, I already know what your future holds. Black carrots.

I can tell you what's coming in your life by looking at the seed you're sowing right now. And I can tell you what already happened in your past by looking at your current harvest.

If you want change, you have to make up your mind to become a sower of the Word — not someone who shows up wanting prayer with no intention of ever sowing anything.

Stop blaming your yesterday for a harvest you never planted

Look around at your life right now and ask yourself honestly: what seed did I sow?

Some of what got planted in you wasn't your fault — words your mother or father spoke over you, things that were never your choice. But at some point, you have to decide you're digging those seeds up and planting new ones.

I could be uneducated and poor, and if I'll sow good seed, I can still eat tomorrow. I don't have to stay controlled by yesterday.

If you don't like your today, you can secure a better tomorrow by the seed you choose to sow right now.

Start today. Not Monday, not a New Year's resolution — today. If you need peace, sow peace. If you need healing, sow healing. If you need finances, sow finances. But first, if you haven't yet, receive the Lord Jesus Christ, because that's the seed everything else grows from.

Fight To Win.
